Welcome back to Year Five!
Welcome back! We have a really busy second half of the year with lots of learning to take place. The Autumn term went so quickly but the children worked hard and gained lots of new knowledge.
In school we are starting our whole school theme ‘Many Worlds One Planet’. Within this, Year 5 will be focussing on Antarctica and we are very excited. We will try to ensure that children really gain an insightful knowledge of Antarctica without actually visiting. This however would be nice!
Over the term, the children will participate in class reading sessions as well as reading at other times of the day.
Weekly spelling sessions will continue.
Maths lessons will follow the revised Year 5 curriculum and include focused arithmetic sessions as well as TT Rockstars practise.
There is an expectation that children will read at home daily either with an adult or independently. At the moment children are reading in school but not necessarily with an adult. Reading logs are to be completed daily and handed in every Tuesday.
This year there will be no weekly spelling homework. We will however be sending home the Year5/6 common exception words for children to practise and a list of spelling patterns we will cover. This enables children to continue to revise the spellings we are learning in school. There will be a half-termly test of common exception words and these will be sent home.
All children have their login details for TT Rockstars. They should continue to improve their rapid recall of multiplication facts using this. We will be awarding prizes for those who we can see are interacting with TT Rockstars as fast recall of multiplication facts is integral for some of the work we will soon be doing.
Further classroom Information
Our current PE day is a Thursday so please wear a full PE kit including trainers on Thursdays. For part of the spring term we will be swimming on a Monday afternoon. Please remember that children need their full kit with them every Monday.
Please ensure children come to school each day with a water bottle so they keep hydrated. They are welcome to refill this throughout the day.
We will, as always, work our hardest to ensure that the children have a happy, productive and successful Year 5 which we are sure they will.
As we are not ‘meeting’ at the current time, please email any questions/ queries to firstname.lastname@example.org These can then be forwarded to us and we can reply/ make a phone call if needed.
Thank you for your continued support.
Miss Hayes, Mrs Robertshaw and Mrs Culleton.
