Year 4
Welcome to Year 4!
We have an exciting term ahead of us. We are all really looking forward to the interesting and engaging work that we will be producing together.
Throughout the school our main topic is “Leaving a Legacy” and the focus for Year four will be on the Ancient Egyptians. We are really looking forward to learning about how people lived during these times including mummification and the pyramids. In Science we will be learning about sound and how our ears allow us to hear sounds. We will be thinking about the use of textiles in DT and making fixtures to attach two pieces.
Homework
There will be a spelling test on Friday and the children will be given their new spellings on the Monday before. Please make sure your child practises their spellings every day.
Children will be bringing reading books home and it is still really important that the children are reading every day. We will be logging children’s reading in school and we expect to see reading recorded in their reading journals 5 times a week. The times tables expectations for year 4 are that they know all the facts for rapid recall. This means recall of 5 seconds. Each child has a log on to TT Rock stars to practise the multiplication and division facts. Please ensure your child spends 5 to 10 minutes every school day making sure they are increasing their times tables fluency. We will be having a large focus on the times tables this year.
PE
Our PE day is Tuesday. On these days, we are asking the children to come into school in their full PE kit, including trainers. As the days begin to get colder, please can the children make sure they have suitable outdoor clothing (trainers, jacket, jogging bottoms / trousers). Swimming continues until February. This is every Monday afternoon. Please remember to include a swimming hat with their kit.
Water bottles
Please can all children make sure they have a water bottle with them each day; they are welcome to fill their bottle up throughout the day at school.
The Year Four team will be working hard to ensure the children have a happy, productive and successful term. If you have any questions, please email these to schooloffice@sacredheart.peterborough.sch.uk and these will be forwarded to us and we will get back to you.
Thank you for your continued support.
