Year 4
Summer Term
Welcome back to Sacred Heart! I hope you all have had a peaceful Easter break, and you are ready for our final term in Year Four. The team is looking forward to the interesting and engaging work you will produce together.
This term, we will be completing our work on the Amazon rainforest and starting our new topic all about the United States of America! We will be exploring the flora and fauna of the rainforest, and the effects of deforestation. In our USA topic, we will explore the key landmarks of the country, with a focus on the Grand Canyon and the Niagara Falls.
In English, we will be using the knowledge from our topic lessons and the books “The Explorer” by Katherine Rundell and “Native American Stories for Kids” by Tom Pecore Weso to create incredible pieces of writing in different genres.
In Maths, our topics for this term will be fractions, decimals, money, time, shape, statistics, and position and direction.
In Science, we will be learning all about living things and their habitats and in RE, we will be on the topic To the Ends of the Earth and Dialogue and Encounter.
Spellings
The children will be given new spellings every Monday, with a spelling test on the Friday. Please make sure your child practices their spellings every day.
Reading
Children will be bringing reading books home and it is still really important that the children are reading every day. The expectation is for the children to bring in their reading record every day and every Friday , we will be logging children’s reading in school.
Times tables
The times tables expectations for Year 4 are that they know all the facts for rapid recall. This means recall of 5 seconds. Each child has a log on to TT Rockstars to practice the multiplication and division facts.
Homework is added to TT Rockstars every Monday and we will be checking it on the following Monday. Please ensure your child spends 5 to 10 minutes every school day making sure they are increasing their tables fluency.
We are running a program called Times Table Superheroes. The children will be given a times table sheet to practice which will be tested every week. To move onto the next times table sheet, the children must get all questions correct!
PE
Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. These days, we are asking the children to come into school in their full PE kit, including trainers.
Water bottles
Please can all children make sure they have a water bottle with them each day; they are welcome to fill their bottle up throughout the day at school.
The Year Four team will be working hard to ensure the children have a happy, productive and successful term. If you have any questions, please email these to schooloffice@sacredheart.peterborough.sch.uk and these will be forwarded to us and we will get back to you.
Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to working with you all.
