Year 2

Welcome back Year Two!

English

Our English work this term begins with the story Izzy Gizmo.  We will then read The Fixer of Broken things, Counting on Katherine and the non-fiction book Little People Big Dreams – Rosa Parks.  We will be using a variety of features in our writing including the conjunction ‘but’ as well as working on time adverbials such as first, next and then.

Theme

Linking to our English we will be working on the topic ‘Women in History’.  Starting with Amelia Earhart we will then learn about Rosa Parks and Greta Thunberg.

Science

Our science topic will see us looking at ‘Everyday Materials’.  This will cover areas such as identifying materials and describing their properties.  We will also be working out which material is suitable for different products.

Phonics

Phonics lessons will continue and reading books will be sent home on a Thursday.  Please ensure that these are returned on a Monday morning as they will be needed by other children.

Reading is an important part of your child's learning.  Please ensure that you listen to them read their phonics reading book and note in their reading record that you have done so.  If they read another book from home, please make a note of this in their record as we would love to know! 

PE

PE will take place on a Thursday and children will need to come to school in their PE kit, including trainers.
