Summer Term
Welcome back! We can’t believe how quickly the year is flying by!
This half term, we will be looking at ‘Our global family’ with a focus on the story Handa’s Surprise. We will use this story as a starting point to explore different communities and climates, looking particularly at the different creatures that live in these places. The children will be doing lots of comparing and contrasting, with emphasis on explaining their thoughts and ideas. Our RE is focusing on the coming of the Holy Spirit and our Parish church and family. In Maths we will be consolidating the children’s knowledge of numbers to 10, extending to numbers beyond 20. We then move on to addition and subtraction and sharing and grouping.
PE
Our PE day will remain on a Friday. Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing the correct PE kit which is clearly labelled with their name. They should also be wearing suitable black PE shoes.
Reading and Phonics
Our phonics will be consolidating the sounds that the children have learnt so far, as well as reading longer words. As a reminder, the children will bring home their phonic book on Thursdays to be returned to school on Monday. It is vitally important that the books are returned on time, as these will be used with another group of children that week. These are celebration books, which the children should be able to read with an increasing amount of fluency. The children are able to change their ‘reading for pleasure’ books at any time during the week. Please make sure that reading records are in book bags throughout the week.
Tapestry
We hope that you are enjoying following your child’s learning journey on tapestry. If you haven’t yet logged on to Tapestry, please have a go and let Mrs Torrington know if you have any problems. It is possible to create your own observation if your child has done some learning at home that you would like to share.
Other
Please ensure that your child brings their water bottle every day. This should contain fresh water please, rather than squash or flavoured water.
Please make sure that all uniform is named.
Many thanks for your ongoing support,
Miss Houghton and Mrs Mundora
